Jess Bhamra, the daughter of a strict Indian couple in London, is not permitted to play organized soccer, even though she is 18. When Jess is playing for fun one day, her impressive skills are seen by Jules Paxton, who then convinces Jess to play for her semi-pro team. Jess uses elaborate excuses to hide her matches from her family while also dealing with her romantic feelings for her coach, Joe.
Lili, a pouty and voluptuous 14-year-old, is caravan camping with her family in Biarritz. She's self-aware and holds her own in a café conversation with a concert pianist she meets, but she has a wild streak and she's testing her powers over men, finding that she doesn't always control her moods or actions, and she's impatient with being a virgin. She sets off with her brother to a disco, latching onto an aging playboy who is himself hot and cold to her. She is ambivalent about losing her virginity that night, willing the next, and determined by the third.
As the romantic monsoon rains loom, the extended Verma family reunites from around the globe for a last-minute arranged marriage in New Delhi. This film traces five intersecting stories, each navigating different aspects of love as they cross boundaries of class, continent and morality.
Agnès Varda eloquently captures Paris in the sixties with this real-time portrait of a singer set adrift in the city as she awaits test results of a biopsy. A chronicle of the minutes of one woman’s life, Cléo from 5 to 7 is a spirited mix of vivid vérité and melodrama, featuring a score by Michel Legrand and cameos by Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina.
An emotionally scarred highway drifter shoots a sadistic trick who rapes her, and ultimately becomes the United States' first female serial killer.
In a barren, arranged marriage to an amateur swami who seeks enlightenment through celibacy, Radha's life takes an irresistible turn when her beautiful young sister-in-law seeks to free herself from the confines of her own loveless marriage.
Story with a macabre twist about a peculiar boy, who gathers cats from the street and returns them - for a reward - to the rightful owner. One day, he comes across a poster that reports the missing of a beautiful girl. His observations, distorted by loneliness, lead him to believe he knows where she is, but during his rescue operation he loses sight of the dangers of the real world.
Slightly meteorological film about creating, behaving and blustering of clouds, about how the invisible (e.g. water in atmosphere) can become visible and in what way formating of ideas is similar to that of clouds. Also a painter and a physicist participate, to talk about elements (the first one) and colours (the latter one).
The film mediates a certain kind of mental space of timelessness. At the edges somewhere unfolds the maternal body. Images and sounds of the first months after the author gave birth to her children constitute the film's distinctive language. Thus the film confronts habitual ways of imaging and understanding maternity with personal experience. From this point it is possible to approach the reality of new life and motherhood. The space between a mother's love and lactation psychosis is pervaded by intimacy and fragility on its own. The micro event in each scene contrasts with the toughness of static time framed into the white winter landscape. Thus the film speaks about something profoundly basic.
A family saga for super-8 films and voices with accents of bruising memories. The thoughtful, fond exploration of a haunted past. Images of the mystery of these departed children who are invisible and yet remain present.
Nine-year-old Max Anderson has a big problem: he knows about an evil plot to kill the president, and no one believes him. Adults don’t usually believe in talking dogs, but Max is certain that the tip from the would-be assassin’s pet dog is a sure thing. As he and his human and animal friends set out to put a stop to the sinister plan, his parents, the police, and even his bodyguard discredit his suspicion. When Agent Clyde finally begins to catch on, time is running out, and they must act quickly to save the president’s life. The story reminds us that doing the right thing isn’t always easy, and heroes come in all sizes.
