Katharina Knie is a 1929 German silent drama film directed by Karl Grune and starring Eugen Klöpfer, Carmen Boni and Adele Sandrock. It is based on the 1928 play of the same title by Carl Zuckmayer.

Under the Lantern

Else Riedel (Lissy Arna), locked out by her authoritarian father, seeks refuge with her boyfriend Hans. Complications threaten when Hans's roommate Max falls in love with her, but the situation is resolved: the three remain friends, and decide to form a music hall act. They want to ascend, but how? A way out beckons when a theatrical agent named Nevin enters Else’s life. He is played by Hubert von Meyerinck as a slick and oily villain, who oozes refinement; his experience behind bars is waved away with a silk scarf. He is cunning to the point of perfidiousness, but is not completely unsympathetic. He also embodies a new type - the scrounger.

His English Wife

London socialite Cathleen Paget's adventures in love and misfortune a year after the death of her husband. But when her brother Bruce has lost the family fortune in bad business, Cathleen is suggested to court Nordic giant Birger Holm. The two marry and the families financial problems seem to be at bay, although the life in the northern Sweden is wearing Cathleen down as she misses parties, friends and dancing at the Savoy Hotel.
