Shin Seong-il

Profile

Shin Seong-il was a Korean actor (1937-2018). Born in occupied Korea, as Kang Shin-yeong, he attended Geonguk University, majoring in Korean Literature. He made his film debut in director Shin Sang-ok's Romance Papa in 1960 and appeared in more than 500 movies. He won several awards for best actor or best supporting actor for films such as Private Tutor (1963) and Moonlight Hunter (1987). In 1979, he became the chairman of the Korean Actors League and held the position for several consecutive terms. After a long career as an actor and having directed and even produced, Shin Sung-il retired from the film industry in favour of pursuing a career in politics. He was elected to the National Assembly. A Hero without a Serial Number

In around the 1950s. A man in charge of a guerilla unit is hiding in the Masingryeong Mountains. On the other hand, his brother, a high government official in the North Korean Ministry of Defense has his father killed blaming him a reactionary. He suffers greatly from the guilt of killing his father and finally decides to give himself up to his brother's guerilla unit. Tragically, however, he is shot to death on his way to the unit to surrender. At his last breath, in his brothers arms, he gives his brother the logistics secrets of the North Korean army.

Evergreen Tree

Yeong-shin and Dong-hyuk graduate from college with a cause. They plan to bring education and modernization to farmers living in the rural area of their hometown. However, the villagers at first resent and resist the pair. It is not until one child, Ok-bun, takes the initiative and and learns to read under Yeong-shin’s care that the villages trust the pair and allow their children to be taken from the fields and taught reading, writing and math.

In this situation Young-Kuk, brother of Hyeon-Ju who is a kisaeng of Myeong Wol Kwan, is jailed and Choi Chil-Yong, an inspector of Japanese Higher Police Department, is in agony of difficulties between Korea and Japan. Shin Yun-Il, a member of the council falls in love with a kisaeng whose name is Jeong-Mi. All of these are going their way under the influence of phases of the times such as carrying out colonial policies and each of them is linked complicatedly and causes troubles. After all their efforts concentrated on Independence of Korea, and Park No-Hun carried out his mission with help of 5 kisaengs of Myeong Wol Kwan. Finally he leaves for Shanghai with them.

Madam White Snake

A thousand-year-old snake that has transformed itself into a human, Madame White Snake (Choe Eun-hui), falls in love with a young pharmacist named Heo-Seon.
