Quiet American in Prague

In the era of normalization, even seemingly buried agent stories came back. This one takes place in the immediate post-war years and tells the story of the discovery of a spy network that an American diplomat was spinning on Czech territory. He was unsuccessful: first, a close associate, who was proven to have collaborated with the Nazis during the war, committed suicide, followed by the intervention of the vigilant Security Service. However, the fleeing Americans were joined "in return" by a Czechoslovak agent... This naive adventure story could hardly be taken seriously. The book, which served as the basis for the film, was written based on actual events that took place in 1948.

Víkend bez rodičů

Even great love does not necessarily overcome a difference of morals - although the young hero is very much in love, he still rejects the comfortable and easy existence he could lead thanks to the family of his future father-in-law. A tediously moralistic comedy, it picks up with all seriousness the morality of a socialist man who has broken forever with petty bourgeois ideas. It is therefore too contrived, nor does it succeed in elevating the tawdry story in any way. A comedy about life's little and big compromises.

Médeia

A theatrical production by the independent theater company JEDL from Divadlo X10. The proven trio of creators Nebeský-Trmíková-Prachař used an ancient theme for original variations and reflections on the relationship between women and men and on the boundaries that cannot be crossed, even when love turns into mad hatred. The creators also invited painter I. Korpaczewski, conceptual artist M. Titlová Ylovsky, and musician J. Šikl to participate in the production, directly involving them in the dramatic form, thus creating the work in action, right in front of the audience.

… a stoupej do slunce!

Honzík has to spend his holidays with his grandfather because his divorced mother is very busy. However, she doesn't want her father, a former military pilot, to tell her grandson anything about airplanes. She doesn't like airplanes because her childhood memories are mostly of her father constantly being at the airport, and when her mother died, she had to take care of everything herself. The film is about the love of flying. A love that brings both joy and pain in equal measure. It is a story about searching for lost relationships. About building new trust between loved ones. About the permanence of certain values that we often wastefully overlook, not out of malice, but because we take them for granted. The entire film is interwoven with unique real footage of MIG21 fighter jets, the likes of which have never been filmed before and probably never will be again. Other flight scenes feature a number of beautiful machines, from historic gliders to the L159 ALCA.

Genij vlasti

When Vojtěch Hynais, who lived in Paris in the 1880s, received an offer to paint the curtain for the National Theater, he accepted it. However, his modern concept for that time was not accepted by the academically rigid commission. He did not depict the required figures from Czech history, but rather an artist kissed by the Muse. Although he completed the work, he was never paid for his work on the largest curtain in Austria-Hungary. Author Martin Šafránek very sensitively uncovered the issue of moral failure at the cost of material benefits on the one hand and the courage to risk these values to the point of self-destruction on the other. Director Jiří Strach, who made his debut with this work in 1998, cast Radek Holub and Klára Issová in the leading roles.

Putování Jana Amose

The distressing fate of the Czech great Jan Amos Komenský, forced to leave his homeland after the White Mountain disaster. It depicts his encounters with various European personalities of the 17th century - the Queen of Sweden, artists and scientists. It emphasises the hero's nobility, but also his inner resilience, which allowed him to overcome many personal and professional tragedies. The parable of The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart becomes part of the story. However, Comenius's concept is sculpturally lifeless and, in particular, the religious dimension is "erased" from it. The simplistic biography therefore does not avoid schoolboyish dryness.
