Profile

Giuliana De Sio was born in Salerno and grew up in Cava de 'Tirreni, where her family originates from. De Sio's first public appearance was her when she was five in a show at the Teatro Verdi in Salerno. She moved to Terrasini when she was eighteen to live in a hippy commune before moving to Rome, where she befriended Teresa Ann Savoy and Alessandro Haber, who encouraged her to start acting. Her professional debut took place in 1976 when Gianni Bongiovanni chose her for Una donna. Elio Petri then gave her a part of her in Mani dirty di lei and Tonino Cervi chooses her to act in The Imaginary Sick with Alberto Sordi. In the early 1980s she meets Massimo Troisi, who chooses her for an important role in her second film, Sorry for the delay (1982). She subsequently worked with Francesco Nuti in The Pool Hustlers (1982) and Casablanca Casablanca (1985). Born : 2nd-Apr-1956

Francesco, nicknamed 'Toscano', is a very good pool player but he never wins when he plays for money. He meets Chiara, a saxophone player, on a late night bus by swapping his case containing the cue with her one, containing the sax. The two fall in love, but in the meantime Francesco loses a big amount of money playing versus 'Scuro', the long-time Italian champion. His only chance to pay the debt is to win the Italian Championships.

Uno scandalo perbene

Based on a real-life mystery in the newspapers after World War I, this conventional, straightforward story is about a poorly-dressed man who is brought into the police station in Turin for stealing flower pots from the cemetery. He is rather brutally interrogated, and then because he has no idea who he is or where he belongs, he is put into an asylum for the mentally disturbed. After his photograph is published in the newspapers, a woman shows up at the institution claiming that he is Professor Canella, her missing and wealthy husband. The news obtains the release of the amnesiac, but his claim is quickly and hotly contested by another family, arguing that the man is an imposter. As a result, his case goes back to court and in the meantime, the "professor" is put in jail. As the courtroom drama continues, there are various clues that suggest whether or not the amnesiac has been accurately identified and by whom.
