Profile

Director, producer, composer, scriptwriter, music video director, actor. Born in Moscow in 1964. Graduated from the actor’s faculty of the Yaroslavl Theatre Institute (class of S. Rozov), and the director’s department of the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors (class of R. Bykov). Since 1992 works in advertising and show business; has made over 300 music clips; prize-winner of advertising festivals. His short “Residential District Star” (1991) participated in the Panorama section of the Berlinale. In 1999 made his debut feature “$81⁄2” (the Golden Aries award in the category Best Debut). The film participated in the debut competition of Kinotavr. In 2009 the film “Pussycat” closed the Kinotavr festival and won three prizes at the Window to Europe festival. In 2010 he made “The Female”. In 2016 acted as director, screenwriter and composer for the mini-series “Drunken Firm”. This work brought him the “Word” award of V. Chernykh in the category Best Script for TV. “Russian Psycho” is his fourth feature film. Born : 29th-Jan-1964

This film is of interest primarily because it contains within it the entire surviving footage of an unfinished 1974 film by the same director, Slave of Love, which was successfully remade shortly thereafter by another director, Nikita Mikhalkov.The "cover" story is about a woman (Jeanne Moreau) newly released from prison camps in the 1940s back into Russian society, who finds that there is no place for her in the world she has come back to. However, this painterly film is so filled with striking and surreal imagery that it would be misleading to say that the story is of any great importance in relation to that.

Only in the end of the film the viewer gets the clear explanation of the neighborhood of the described destinies and the connection between the characters.

After his marriage with Lyuba breaks down, Boris begins to search for an apartment of his own. He locates an apartment for couples which is being inhabited by a lone old lady who is supposed to move in with her sister. The old lady doesn't want to go, and tries to stave off the inevitable by taking in a young woman Elya as a flat-mate.

Andrei's ex-girlfriend Tania (Anzhela Belyanskaya) has been constantly in danger of going to jail since he knew her. Their breakup was not his doing, and he is determined to keep her out of jail. Andrei (Oleg Menshikov) has a notion that, if he can raise enough money, he can smuggle her out of Russia into New York, where all will be well. While Andrei's grasp on reality may be tenuous, his ability to maneuver and scheme is unimpaired. He is a student filmmaker, and the kind of money he needs to save Tania with doesn't grow on trees. He begins raising funds by mugging men at public toilets, and graduates to stealing the drug money accumulated by more serious gangsters. After he has raised the money to accomplish his goal, his girl, the light of his life, confesses that she despises him, and then goes out and gets arrested.
