In the mountains of the Basque Country, a mother and her daughter take shelter in a ruined hut that seems uninhabited.

A movie built up of three stories about life in a small Slovak town. The Prosecutor: the district attorney is a jazz orchestra soloist at the same time and that is much disliked by the local provincial society. The Defender: is about a young doctor's relation to his patient, who is open about his reactionary opinions. The Judge: it is only after long years that the old judge realizes that his own marriage is in jeopardy.

Based on the Chinese folk tale. Long ago, three brothers Liu lived in China. They were so similar that even their own mother discerned them on colored ribbons. The first brother could command fire, the second could drink the sea and return it back, and a third knew the language of birds, animals and fish.

The story of Skip, a young ex-convict who takes a position as a night janitor at an old-west theme park. His supervisor Archie, teaches him the ropes, but more importantly attempts to convey critical philosophical messages through a series of four stories: a down and out boxer is given the opportunity to become a real golden gloves killer; an assassin kidnaps three people in order to find out who hired him for his latest hit; a new recruit is initiated into a lodge of fez-wearing businessmen where hazing can take a malevolent turn; and a member of a suicide club introduces real fear into a man about to jump to his death.

The film takes place in one house, at an unspecified place, at an unspecified time. In this house, twelve dialogue stories take place and all have one thing in common - oppressive hopelessness. We witness everyday problems that become absurd under a distorted lens and become all the more real. The film follows with almost morbid interest the fates of people who, based on their actions and incompetence, are doomed. The question remains how far the characters from this "house" are.

In an isolated, snow-covered country known as the Water Land, the town of Shandrilan remains the quietest place in the world because its "Hush Law" prohibits noise of any kind, including music. Enter the exiled gypsy Zantalalia (Patti LuPone), who returns determined to pass her singing secrets on to ten-year-old Aurora (Meredith Henderson), an action that will get the girl in trouble with Captain Nizzle of the dreaded Noise Police. John Neville completes the cast of this colorful family fantasy.

John, unable to understand the illness that drives his grandfather between past and present states, stumbles into an old album full of photographs. The images guide his imagination, transforming his grandfather’s memories into drawings that shape their relationship into a history of memory-building and remembrance.
