⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ Back in the 2000s, my parents made an executive decision to move to Canada when I was barely speaking a lick of English. When we first got here, we had trouble making ends meet. We lived in a dingy apartment complex that my old friends there argue could be considered a project. My Abbu worked night and day and the only moments he could catch his breath was during the weekend mornings. We didn't own a bed yet, but we had a floor mattress. On there, our family sat and watched old Tom and Jerry episodes on a laptop. One day, when I decided to be exceptionally angsty, I told my parents I got bored of watching the old classics. I wanted something new. My Dad decided to redeem a month long free trial of Netflix (back when it had literally every movie and TV show). I don't think I'd be the movie lover today if that never happened. I was exposed to so much all at once and had my mind occupied with all the content I could ever want. It's why even still to this day, Kung Fu Panda 2 and the SpongeBob Squarepants movie are still my most watched films of all time. But the runner up to both of them is this film. I watched this shortly after my brother was born. I've got fond memories of this. The intro is still etched in my mind even after 12 years since I last saw this. I'm petty, this film wasn't on Letterboxd so I edited the TMDB listing myself to make it eligible to be on here. I remember the wooden tile patterns on the floor my feet rested on. The black, ripped up leather couch I sat on. The mattress with a bed sheet wit blue and pink patterns of moons and stars. I remember the laptop I watched the film, which has since been water damaged through no one else's fault but mine. The warm lights in the small dining room. The lamp on the ceiling that if you look at just from a 2ft tall kid's angle, you'd envision a UFO. The loud AC blasting away from the window. I've got fond movies to remember this era by. I'm glad my memory serves me to hold on to these moments of childhood bliss.
A beautiful girl, Snow White, takes refuge in the forest in the house of seven dwarfs to hide from her stepmother, the wicked Queen. The Queen is jealous because she wants to be known as "the fairest in the land," and Snow White's beauty surpasses her own.
With the impending ice age almost upon them, a mismatched trio of prehistoric critters – Manny the woolly mammoth, Diego the saber-toothed tiger and Sid the giant sloth – find an orphaned infant and decide to return it to its human parents. Along the way, the unlikely allies become friends but, when enemies attack, their quest takes on far nobler aims.
A seven-part anthology film that probes the theme of childhood from various angles. Each part is directed by a different person, with techniques ranging from watercolor to cut-out.
