Parigi '50 - L'esistenza immaginata

Premiered at the 2017 Locarno International Film Festival.

In this video I share my experience as the first Resident of the Harun Farocki Institut in Berlin during the winter of 2016-2017. Produced for the Goethe Institute.

A short made during quarantine. - "I feel like I'm coming out of hibernation. I did not learn anything, I did not developed personal growth, nor qualities. I was smart for one day and read challenging stuff, and then for three days watched persisently TV series. I couldn't write. I found a handful of indispensable people. I didn't really understand much of this whole quarantine story; but I'm analytically only retroactive, so maybe it's going to happen. This movie made me feel alive for a few days."

People constantly appear walking through passageways in the films of Japanese filmmaker Yasujirō Ozu (1903-63). His art resides in the in-between spaces of modern life, in the transitory: alleys are no longer dark and threatening traps where suspense is born, but simple places of passage.

A film by Spetsnaz, narrated through a first person perspective, documenting his journey and the journeys of countless other men. "A Documentary Told in Four Chapters. Featuring many favorite content creators & some of the videos that impacted me the most in my journey. This Feature does not take a historical approach but is rather an expression of my experience discovering men going their own way content & the impact it had on my development. It is told from a personal individual perspective. I wanted to make this video to have closure on that chapter in my life & to leave a record of what was & what continues to evolve. The insights & shared experiences of men are more important now than ever. They certainly helped me."

Musing on the nature of memory, Don Hertzfeldt recounts stories about a kiss from The King, a floating child in a backyard and a giant foot.

A fantasia of post-indoctrination, immigration, and iconography. A pageant of wanderers and searchers: Mormon missionaries, a pioneer, polygamists, scouts, hunters, church-goers, and an aspiring prophet walk and walk and walk. A pilgrimage of memory, history, ancestry, and place.

Initially a made-to-order documentary on Spain, the film becomes an open-ended work-in-the-making about the creative process. “Settling in the Spanish capital to make a documentary, Hanoun sketches out for us the different steps involved in making a film. "Searching for the Perfect Gentleman — an Investigative Journey" is a documentary about the search of an African barber shop poster. The virtual journey takes the viewer to various African, European and Asian countries, in order to find the place where it was originally created, produced and sold. What seems easy in the beginning turns out to be a demanding process, yet an interesting experience in accessing information, communicating with people from totally different backgrounds and indulging in uncertainty, to celebrate the search itself — wherever it may lead. The film shows how boundaries between originality and reproduction merge, in a world where everything can be remixed and reprinted easily. Searching for the Perfect Gentleman tells a multi-layered story about trust, persistence and interconnectedness in a globalized world.

Through the footage from his family's Handycam, the director creates a portrait of his family that is falling apart.
