Ju Jeung-ryu (February 11, 1926 – 1980) was South Korean actress whose fame peaked in the 1950s and 1960s. She starred in about 400 films. Ju was born in Yonghung, Hamkyongnam-do, nowadays in North Korea. While attending Hamnam Girls' High School, Ju became an ardent play fan. When she became eighteen, she ran away from home and joined in the theater company, Gohyeop. Her first role as an actress was a maid in Muyeongtap (무영탑) written by Yu Chi-jin. Wikipedia contributors. At the close of the reign of Sin the Great in Goguryeo (B.C.37-A.D.668), royalist Uso is executed by a false incrimination made by a treacherous retainer Yangsin and his sister Jangssi. His daughter becomes a royal concubine of King Nammu, and called Her Majesty Yeonghwa. She revenges herself on the party of Yangsin. After the king passes away, she makes his brother Yeonu accede to the throne and has the whole country under her thumb. But she has no child. When the king begets a son from another woman, she dies of jealousy at last.

The Testimony

Wives on Parade

A newlywed wife, Ji-sun moves to her husband's village in a rural area called Sambatgol where it is customary to have glossy charades, incompetence is prolific, and thus poverty is endemic. In the meantime, longtime absent father of Gang-du returns to hids wife, who is Ji-sun's strong supporter and the chairperson of the village women's association. Gang-du's father, however, turns out to be an espionage agent sent from North Korea. He makes his mind up to denounce himself by persuasion of his wife, but he and his wife get killed by other espionage agents. At the funeral of these two, Ji-sun and the village people march in resolution of succeeding her will to make more endeavors in the developmental plan of the village.

The Earth

Ha Dong, Kyung Nam Province in 1890. Choi Chi-Su's family is a grand land lord of the region from generation to generation. His mother Mrs. Yoon gives birth to another son Hwan after she was raped by Kim Gae-Ju when he is 10 years old. Later Hwan becomes a servant of Choi family but he falls in love with Chi-Su's wife and they flee by night. Meanwhile after a reign of 40 years of King Ko Jong, cholera prevails all over the country and years of famine follows it. While people suffer from natural disasters and diseases, one of Chi-Su's maternal relative Cho Jun-Ku and his wife make a plot to take Choi family's enormous wealth and strengthen the foundation for his status. Mother's Power

Seoul, under a drizzling spring rain; Korea is under the rule of Japan. A gisaeng(Korean geisha) named Jeong-ok (Ju Jeung-nyeo) and Myeong-gyu (Lee Min), the son of a bank president, fall in love. However, the bank president, Lee Eun-jik (Kim Seung-ho), placing importance on family background, objects to his son's relationship because of Jeong-ok's occupation. However, Myung-gyu leaves home and sets up a home with Jeong-ok. When Myung-gyu dies, Jeong-ok has his baby, named Yeong-gu (Park Geum-hui). When Eun-jik brings Yeong-gu home to raise him as the family's successor, he becomes impressed with the close relationship between mother and son, finally bringing Jeong-ok into his household and accepting her as his daughter-in-law.

Even though she and Sang-gyu truly love each other, she decides to leave him and heads for her country home after selling her house in Seoul. Hearing the news, he who is ill in bed hurries to Seoul station, but it is too late. All he can do is just to stand on the platform and to watch her train pulling away.
