Profile

Sophia Latjuba was born to Azzizurrahman Latjuba, a Bugis-Javanese, and Anna Muller, a German-Austrian, in West Berlin, West Germany, on 8 August 1970. In her youth, she moved back to Indonesia with her father; she later reported that she felt closer to him than her mother. She graduated from Senior High School 3 Jakarta. Latjuba made her film debut in 1987 with Bilur-Bilur Penyesalan (Stripes of Regret), while still in high school. She later appeared in numerous films, culminating with Kuldesak, directed by her then-sister-in-law Mira Lesmana which she appeared in for free, in 1998. During her film career, Latjuba was considered a sex symbol; Bruce Edmond, writing for The Jakarta Post, described her as being "many an Indonesian man's fantasy woman" at the time. She also released several albums, including Hanya Untukmu (Only For You), which won the 1994 BASF Award for Best Album Arrangement. Born : 8th-Aug-1970

Rio Sang Juara

Reminiscent of the Rocky film starring Sylvester Stallone, Rio has to use his fists to make a living as an illegal parking man. When the parking area is taken over by the local government, Rio loses his livelihood. Mursali then helps him by offering his taxi for driving at night. Again he has to use his fists on this new job, but when he meets Lia, she advises Rio to become a boxer. So he goes to Oom Eddy’s boxing gym and his career takes off. But Lia distracts him from his training and his fights. He also forgets about his girlfriend in the village, Sinta (Ayu Azhari). His losing streak begins and then Lia dies during an abortion. So Rio goes back to his village. Oom Eddy and Rio’s friends try to lift his spirit up again. Then Rio returns to the boxing ring, and is victorious once more.

Danti is a strong-willed woman, but she has to marry Irawan to help her father who is in debt. Danti always feels like a whore since her marriage started from a “debt payment”. In the middle of her pregnancy, Danti runs away to live alone. She feels that she has paid her father’s debt with the result of her work. She tells Irawan that she has had a miscarriage, but in truth, she is raising her child alone. Two men try to approach her to propose marriage but she refuses them both. Later, she realises that she loves Irawan. When the child has an accident, Danti asks Irawan to donate his blood. Then Irawan finds out that he has a child.

Aldy refuses so Dewi becomes frustrated and starts tormenting them.

Pengantin

Ryan (Ari Wibowo), a young playboy, makes a bet with his friend, Agus (Tio Pakusadewo), that he can win over the affections of Santi (Sophia Latjuba), whom he has just met at a discotheque. As it turns out, Santi is no easy target and Ryan must go out of his way to prove that he is sincere. Ryan’s father does not approve of their relationship and tries to break them up by offering Santi money to go away. This enrages Santi’s father because there is a long standing feud between the two men. Finally, Ryan and Santi tire of the conflict and elope to a small village where they begin a life together. The fathers continue to blame each other until they finally come to their senses and go in search of Ryan and Santi. The two men find their children dead in pools of blood; the victims of criminals.
