The Midwife: Praji Magic

The film tells a story about Nyi Anis who uses black magic because she is vengeful towards her husband who has thrown her out of the house. The condition for the black magic is that she has to sacrifice a baby every full moon. She becomes the pretty Nyi Mayang. Her husband is willing to take her back. Trouble arises when her black magic teacher dies and she cannot return to her original form. The villagers then defeat her using prayers.

Ramadhan dan Ramona

The story of two young people from wealthy families who are looking for their own individual identities. Ramona (Lydia Kandou), who hates the patriarchal attitude men have toward women, immerses herself in the lives of the less fortunate people around her. Ramadhan (Djamal Mirdad), who is descended from Malaysian nobility, is in Jakarta gaining work experience as a low level company employee. The two young people meet in Jakarta and begin to like each other. The blossoming romance between these two young people who are each keeping their backgrounds secret from the other conveyed in a light and humorous tone. Eventually, however, they find out about each others' backgrounds. Ramona backs off, while Ramadhan continues to pursue her.

Amir, the son of a businessman, Yahya, is more interested in music than in having a position as president of the company. Yahya is totally against this, and even his brother, Ismed is not allowed to help him. Instead, help comes from Norma, his father’s private secretary, and some young musicians. A music festival that Amir organizes is a huge success. In the end, Yahya makes peace with Amir and retires happily. The company is handed over to Ismed while Norma goes off to help Amir. The film featured the Imam Band that was popular at that time. The members were Eka Djaja Combo, Dolok Martimbang, Teruna Ria, Kinantan, Irama Agung and Idris Sardi and his orchestra.

When their children fail to come home, their parents start to worry. Due to their own neglect and unfulfilled promises, the children, Maria and Suzy, are getting some help from an old man, their former teacher, to go to the zoo and other entertainment centers by themselves. When the police are called, the kids are quickly found and returned to the parents, but the teacher is so heavily shaken by this experience that he admits himself to a mental asylum.

He also gets a girlfriend, who lives in Singapore, and accepts his profession.

As he refuses his boss’s order to sleep with Mira, he is locked up. Luckily his friend, who brought him into the syndicate, helps him to escape. Meanwhile, Rose takes her child to look for him to Jakarta. She wanders aimlessly and leaves her child in an orphanage. Fortunately, she is found by a group of street musicians who stumble upon her when she is about to be raped. Rose joins the group because she has a singing ability. Then the leader of The Brims Band discovers her and she becomes an even more popular singer.

Marzuki has a relationship with Fatimah, but they do not get her parents’ approval because he is unemployed. He goes to the city to find a job, but then has an affair with Leila, an older woman. Because Leila causes his break-up with Fatimah, Marzuki turns to yet another older woman. But then he comes back to Leila’s arms. He gets a message from his mother that Fatimah is seriously ill. He goes back home and leaves Leila alone.

She leaves her boyfriend, Adi, feeling that her sister’s way of thinking is too conservative, and changes her name to Eva. Eva then becomes a runway model and gets famous. She has an affair with an older man named Abas, gets pregnant, has an abortion and becomes a high class prostitute. Meanwhile, her ex-boyfriend, Adi, has an affair with Lily, Abas’ wife. One day, she meets again with Adi who is looking for a prostitute for his friend. Offended, Eva stabs Adi. She is then sentenced to 18 years in prison. Her father and her sister, Hanifah, come to the court and give her a mukena (a kind of hijab used by female Muslims for praying) before she goes to prison.

After serving 10 years as punishment for carok (the practice of blood revenge with a sickle-shaped knife by the Madurese), Samsu helps his village fishermen’s co-op. Later, he resigns when he can’t get along with the investor, a beautiful rich widow, Lukitaningsih, who wants to gain personal profit from the co-op. As a result, he also quarrels with his lover, Pijah, and her father, Misral. Samsu then becomes a fisherman. Lukitaningsih tries to lure Samsu and the co-op to bull racing, which is one of Samsu’s skills. Seeing her efforts, Lukitaningsih’s driver, Dani, is envious and instigates Mahmud, against Samsu. Meanwhile, Misral and Pijah begin to understand Samsu so they change the co-op to the way that Samsu wants it to be, and they reconcile. Meanwhile, Mahmud loses the bull race and his carok challenge is answered with a friendly handshake instead.
