In his first film, Peter Nestler gives voice to an old floodgate. A nearby village, its inhabitants, wooden posts and twisted willow rods are presented from this unusual perspective. The floodgate ponders the fisher boats coming home from the sea along the shipping channel which is fed at low tide by a small river.

He tries to resolve the crisis by taking a trip to Scotland, but his insensitive nature causes even more damage, even though he gets on well with his son-in-law - who ensures that the whisky is properly taxed at the local factory.

Ultimately, Grete returns home, teaching Joseph that his rigid world only seems turbulent to himself.
