World War II is raging on the Eastern front but the soldier Nikanor has been sent to Siberia: bot as a prisoner, but as the leader of a motley group of entertainers who travel from village to village giving concerts. Still, Big Brother is watching and when the entertainers encounter a strange man in the woods there is trouble brewing. One of the performers falls in love with the mysterious backwoodsman, but the secret service is after him, too.

Banditskiy Peterburg: Baron

Thief in law Yuri Mikheev, nicknamed Baron, together with his partner, robs the apartment of Mikhail Monakhov, a banker and deputy assistant close to the gangster structures, filled with antiques. Together with the jewels, they bring out Rembrandt's painting Aegina. The baron tells his partner that this is a good copy, realizing that in fact it is the original, stolen from the Hermitage. Soon the Baron ends up in prison, where he bequeaths to the journalist Andrei Seregin, who writes on criminal topics, to take the painting from his woman and return it to the Hermitage. Seregin takes on the investigation alone. The bandits, fearing that a story with a fake hanging in the Hermitage may come up, are trying with all their might to prevent this.

The Last Train

A fat middle-aged man in German officer's uniform gets off a train somewhere in Russia in winter. He is a doctor who has just been called up we learn eventually. This is the end of the line- the Germans are about to retreat. He goes to a hospital which is being evacuated and is thrown out. Kicked out he wanders with another conscript- a failed actor turned postman. The postman is deafened by a shell explosion. They meet their Russian equivalents, others as bad at killing as they are, while other Russians and Germans kill one another around them.
