Based on a 2016 novel by Mana Sakura, “The Lowlife” shows the stories of three women who work in Japan’s adult video industry.

Their alarming discovery leads to a small western town where the mystery of the slain children's disappearance has created an environment of suspicion and distrust. A curious reporter from the city arrives in town and bribes a bar owner to divulge everything she knows. Gradually, the pieces of this disturbing puzzle; deception, adultery and secret bonds, start falling into place. They hold the key to the mystery of the murdered children.

A Hispanic teenager hides out from the law in the home of a good-natured, but rebellious, Caucasian teenage girl after killing two rednecks whom beat him up and left him for dead, leading to a collision of cultures between the two youths.

The film is an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's play A Doll's House. The film uses Ibsen's alternate ending where the unhappy couple are reconciled at the end
