The Director Mohammed Soudani comes back to Algeria after 30 years with the photographer Michael von Graffenried to visit the Algerians he had photographed between 1991 and 2000 without them knowing it.

This the last part of Depardon's triptych "Profils paysans" about what it is like to be a farmer today in an isolated highland area in France. "La vie moderne" examines what has become of the persons he has followed for ten years, while featuring younger people who try to farm or raise cattle or poultry, come hell or high water.

While much of the world struggles to keep the planet going, a frighteningly large group of American fundamentalist Christians are working to promote the apocalypse. The evangelical movement is convinced that they will be saved when Jesus appears in the state of Israel on horseback and, with a sword raised to heaven, kills the infidels so that the blood reaches the horses’ bridles. Natural fires, corona, wars and crises are evidence that the time is nigh. But for the prophecies to be realized, the state of Israel has to grow stronger, so they provide huge financial support and are so far inside the White House that they help influence US foreign policy.

French filmmaker Armel Hostiou discovers he has a double in Kinshasa. Someone has created a fake Facebook profile in his name to hustle aspiring actors. So Armel heads to Congo’s vast capital to track him down, and there begins one of the wildest and most unpredictable films of the year. An elementally suspenseful and wildly entertaining detective story about a white filmmaker on foreign ground. But also a story which with hilarious self-irony and in one twist after another turns into a darker story about the internet, identities and post-colonial struggles in the 21st century.
