Its very rare a Broadway musical finds its way to the big screen but with Newsies it was just destined to happen with some of the best dancing, and singing you will ever see. Newsies is has always been a 10/10 but now thanks to this professional recording its an 11 in my book
I'm not usually a fan of filmed theatrical performances - especially musical theatre. The television so often fails to capture the vitality of the performances and often we are left with something rather lacking. Well, to be fair to Disney, they have managed to capture loads of the energy and dynamism of this adaptation of Harvey Fierstein's book about the strike by the newspaper delivery boys in New York in 1899. The strike itself is fairly legendary - as were the almost Oliver Twist-ian conditions under which these kids were exploited, rather than employed. Jeremy Jordan tops the bill and positively glows as the ring leader "Jack Kelly" who finally has enough of the poverty-stricken existence of his colleagues and who organises a protest that initially invites disdain, but eventually recognition from the city's great and good who all of a sudden realise that these tiny cogs are actually pretty crucial to their entire enterprise thriving or failing. He is well supported by Kara Lindsay, an enthusiastic Ben Fankhauser and Steve Blanchard as the original, if not terribly generous of spirit, "Pulitzer". Alan Menken and Jack Feldman have combined to churn out a remarkable number of memorable songs here, too - "The Bottom Line", "That's Rich" "Seize the Day" and "Kings of New York" are all amongst the toe-tappers that help get this sprightly song and dance musical up and running. The sparing set lends itself well to the television coverage, as does the careful use of lighting and the frequently ensemble approach to the presentation of the story. Stage is certainly best, but this is a close second that skips along well for 2½ hours effortlessly and enjoyably - even if you might be a bit vicariously out of breath at the end!
What if Konstantin Gavrilovich, from Anton Chekkov's famous play, did not commit suicide and was murdered instead? And who did it? Boris Akunin's take on The Seagull unfolds as a comedic murder mystery.
In the final hours of April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic, on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, collided with an iceberg and ‘the unsinkable ship’ slowly sank. It was one of the most tragic disasters of the 20th Century. Fifteen hundred seventeen men, women, and children lost their lives.

This absorbing 1976 production of dramatist Sidney Kingsley's historical play centers on the formative days of the United States and the disputes between founding fathers Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Although the two men greatly respect each other, the deep-seated clash in their ideologies engenders conflict just as the fledgling country is beginning to take root.
A group of late 19th century German teenagers – silenced and controlled by a censorious society – discover a new world of feeling and freedom outside the classroom, with beautiful and devastating consequences.
Since they met the first time in boarding school as little kids, it was obvious that the orphans Kay and Dave would become a couple. But at sixteen, Dave foolishly attempted to rob a bank with a water pistol, and ended up in jail for eight years. Meanwhile Kay was sent to foster parents, where she met the successful business man Mike, whom she married and bore two kids. Now Frank is released from prison and immediately starts wooing Kay again. Although she's happy with Mike, she can't withdraw herself completely. Old memories and her husband's jealousy make her spend more and more time with him.
A teenage girl becomes entangled in a volatile relationship with a pair of high-school lovers.
Dorothy Reid - who before her marriage to ill-fated screen idol Wallace Reid was better known as Dorothy Davenport - was both producer and star of Satin Woman. After the death of her husband from drug abuse in 1923, Davenport dedicated herself to helping others avoid the pitfalls of modern life by turning out a series of cautionary film fables. In Satin Woman, she endeavored to warn society women not to neglect their families for the sake of fads, foibles, and handsome younger men.
