Where does voguing come from, and what, exactly, is throwing shade? This landmark documentary provides a vibrant snapshot of the 1980s through the eyes of New York City's African American and Latinx Harlem drag-ball scene. Made over seven years, PARIS IS BURNING offers an intimate portrait of rival fashion "houses," from fierce contests for trophies to house mothers offering sustenance in a world rampant with homophobia, transphobia, racism, AIDS, and poverty. Featuring legendary voguers, drag queens, and trans women — including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija, Dorian Corey, and Venus Xtravaganza.
At a very camp party in Paris, guests are told about a strange tom-tom played by an Andalusian gipsy, himself a character in a book by a young novelist present at the party. A frantic quest begins for a mysterious love-filter. Tam Tam shows desire and repression through the subversion of archetypes both social (ambassadors, stars, artists) and sexual (homophiles, transvestites, transsexuals), and converting these into a most accurate account of a certain kind of unease: an identity crisis.
Between the ages of two and three, children already know which gender they belong to. One in 10,000 males and one in 40,000 females feel the opposite gender to the one they were assigned at birth. The first signs of transsexuality can appear very early. The families of all the protagonists in the documentary agree that their children have, almost from the moment they began to speak, expressed with surprising insistence and firmness that they belonged to the sex opposite to that of their genitalia.
Twenty years have passed since those two apartments in the heart of Mexico City were the battlefield of a war of the sexes between Ana, Carlos, Andrea, Miguel, Tomás and María. All that is left of those apartments are memories and the image of Tomás' dead body at the bottom of the elevator shaft. Their lives have changed, their families have grown and new and unexpected characters have come to unsettle their daily lives and trigger a chain of events that will make them realize that modesty has been replaced by public disclosure; sex is only an app away; but love...love is still something elusive that everyone in today's banal and chaotic world is seeking.
Ari can’t satisfy his wife Sara. He crashes his speedboat into a cliff and winds up in Switzerland for rehabilitation in what may or may not have been a suicide attempt. Alex, commissioned to paint Sara’s portrait by Ari, becomes Sara’s house guest and sex partner in Ari’s absence. Teresa, Ari’s secretary and ex-lover, is jealous of Sara’s relationship with Alex and schemes to break them up.
A splendid doctor arrives in a small village: all the males compete to undergo repeated examinations in order to get to know the beautiful woman better. The mayor of the village, taking advantage of the beautiful "bait", would like to teach a lesson to the playboy Gustavo, who some time ago had caught all the husbands of the village.

It wasn’t long until Ethan knew that he wasn’t Irene, meanwhile, Sarah wondered why it wasn’t the colour of her skin that made her feel so different from the others but, in fact, the stigma of living with HIV. Those are some of the stories from "DIVERSXS".
