Carlos Montalbán

Carlos Montalbán (June 5, 1903 – March 28, 1991) was a Mexican character actor. Montalbán was born in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, the son of Spanish immigrants Ricarda (née Merino) and Jenaro Montalbán, a store manager. He was the older brother of actor Ricardo Montalbán. Although not as famous as his younger brother, he is notable for having starred as "El Exigenté" in a series of coffee advertisements for Savarin Coffee in the 1960s and for portraying two different characters named "Vargas". The first time in the Jack Lemmon film The Out-of-Towners (1970) and then again in Woody Allen's Bananas (1971). His most famous American film was the boxing drama The Harder They Fall (1956) in which he played the sympathetic manager of a heavyweight contender. Montalbán was also a renowned voice-over actor and announcer; he was best known as the official Spanish language voice for Marlboro cigarettes worldwide. The Harder They Fall

Jobless sportswriter Eddie Willis is hired by corrupt fight promoter Nick Benko to promote his current protégé, an unknown Argentinian boxer named Toro Moreno. Although Moreno is a hulking giant, his chances for success are hampered by a powder-puff punch and a glass jaw. Exploiting Willis' reputation for integrity and standing in the boxing community, Benko arranges a series of fixed fights that propel the unsophisticated Moreno to #1 contender for the championship. The reigning champ, the sadistic Buddy Brannen, harbors resentment at the publicity Toro has been receiving and vows to viciously punish him in the ring. Eddie must now decide whether or not to tell the naive Toro the truth.

A Step Away

Focuses on the performance of various elite athletes during the PanAmerican Games held in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1979. Athletes showcased in the documentary include USA team swimmer of Puerto Rican origin Jesse Vassallo; legendary Cuban track and field athlete Alberto Juantorena; Mexican diver Carlos Girón; American diver Greg Louganis; and the Puerto Rico national basketball team, among others. At the end of the film, the athletes expressed their hopes of being "a step away" from the 1980 Olympics Games; however, these hopes were shattered by the political crisis and the eventual USA-led boycott to the Olympic Games held in Moscow in 1980.

Pepe

Mario "Cantinflas" Moreno is a hired hand, Pepe, employed on a ranch. A boozing Hollywood director buys a white stallion that belongs to Pepe's boss. Pepe, determined to get the horse back (as he considers it his family), decides to take off to Hollywood. There he meets film stars including Jimmy Durante, Frank Sinatra, Zsa Zsa Gabór, Bing Crosby, Maurice Chevalier and Jack Lemmon in drag as Daphne from Some Like It Hot. He is also surprised by things that were new in America at the time, such as automatic swinging doors. When he finally reaches the man who bought the horse, he is led to believe there is no hope of getting it back. However, the last scene shows both him and the stallion back at the ranch with several foals.

Coronet Blue

- Coronet Blue is an American TV series that ran on CBS from May 29, 1967, to September 4, 1967. It starred Frank Converse as Michael Alden, an amnesiac in search of his identity, with Brian Bedford his co-star. The show's 13 episodes were filmed in 1965 and were originally intended to be shown during the 1965-66 television season, but CBS put the show on hiatus when they reversed an earlier decision to cancel the drama Slattery's People. The network had plans to show Coronet Blue the following year, with CBS head of programming Michael Dann saying that, "there still is enormous enthusiasm" for it, but it would take another full year until the network aired it as a summer replacement. It proved moderately popular and developed a cult following. According to Converse, CBS wanted to renew it but by then Converse had signed to do another series for ABC, N.Y.P.D., which premiered the day after the last airing of Coronet Blue. Due to a number of pre-emptions, only 11 of the 13 episodes were shown during the initial run. The theme song was performed by R&B singer Lenny Welch.
