Reservoir (Seven Fragments)

A young woman is fed up with the usual consumer's television and begins to make her own television, or more correctly, closevision. She is now a reporter who wanders around Berlin with her camera and 'telecasting apparatus' on her back. Her livingroom has been transformed into a studio and here the different programs are assembled and aired: statements, interviews, realistic and phantastic programs.

Formally eclectic, the first few seconds of the film seem to introduce us to a typical sensory documentary, but soon the flow of the narrative evolves into a much more complex portrait of the port of Paita, by concatenating recordings made by the author himself, videos generated by an AI, Google Maps views and archival images.

Arktis is a poetic approach to the bizarre landscape of ice, rock, and water; a journey to the arctic ocean and surroundings, with images and sounds. Seventy one-second scenes of the arctic serve as the original material, which is then transformed in its texture, time lapse, color and light qualities to create a material reminiscent of landscape painting. The sound collage uses fragments from sounds of nature and samples from a piece of music for violin and song, which are also transformed in a manner similar to that of the visual pictures. When asked a question on politics, late Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish once answered: “I write about love to expose the conditions that don’t allow me to write about love.” In TWO TRAVELERS TO A RIVER Palestinian actress Manal Khader recites such a poem by Mahmoud Darwish: a concise reflection on how things could have been.

From Germany to Italy, the United States to Île-de-France, Jumbo/Toto, Stories About an Elephant shadows the itinerary of a single forgotten animal, an African elephant doubly-named Jumbo/Toto. Jumbo, as he was called on German colonial ships,at the Amerikakai port of Hamburg, and in Carl Hagenbeck's zoos; Toto, as he'd come to be known with great fame in fascist Italy. An urban investigation and an adventure film, a ballet of flora and fauna and pavement and sea, Jumbo/Toto, Stories About an Elephant is a modern epic of the joy and pain of the 20th century set in what still remains strange and unknown: the 21st century, and the solitude of telling a story.

In Seán Martin's "Koan IV", an opening provocation suggests that the things we see continually hide the things we'd like to see. What we see after this is mist in a Scottish landscape. Martin's patient, enigmatic film contemplates a popular image of romance and intrigue attributed to a rural identity, alluding to what is hidden, what is real and what does not exist.

Annette Philo brings us to the Scottish landscape and its associated dream-like mystique. With gentle overlays, vivid purples and blues, and alluding to the hidden graves of the last of the Knights Templar, Philo’s depiction of bluebell island lulls us into a contemplation on the duality of what we see for ourselves, and what is cultivated as cultural, historical and national identity.

"Keeping the authenticity by intactness" Even if the price is to let it fall apart? Through it's poetic experimental form, this found-footage film analyses questions of religion, as a warm shelter or a cold, distant courtship, and tradition, which becomes an excuse for laziness and lack of passion.

Soul Cage is a non-verbal documentary, which shows the process of creation. The specially composed music builds the dramaturgy of the film on equal rights with the image. This “cinematographic sonata” explores the boundaries of documentary and operates with details, shadows and mystery. The film gets inside the art process of Johanna Forsberg, who lives in the north of Sweden. From the raw metal mesh, cold and resistant, through the fragile moment of creation, to the darkness of the workshop – where everything is possible and the creations have their own life and souls.
