Tony Blackburn

Profile

Antony Kenneth Blackburn is an English disc jockey, singer and TV presenter. Blackburn first achieved fame broadcasting on the pirate stations Radio Caroline and Radio London in the 1960s, before joining the BBC, on the BBC Light Programme. Blackburn was the first disc jockey to broadcast on BBC Radio 1 at its launch, on 30 September 1967, and has had several stints working for the corporation. He has also worked for Capital London and Classic Gold Digital, and currently BBC Radio 2, BBC Local Radio, and British Forces Broadcasting Service. He has also had a singing career. As a DJ, Blackburn is known for his championing of Motown and soul music as well as his legendary presenting style. In 2002, Blackburn was the first winner of the British reality TV series I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! Born : 29th-Jan-1943

- Oxford Road Show was a pop music magazine show broadcast on BBC2 from the BBC's New Broadcasting House, Oxford Road, Manchester between 1981 and 1985. The show featured music, pop music news and competitions. Later it was known as "ORS 84" and "ORS 85". The show was presented as addressing issues for young adults by young adults. Many bands and artists popular at the time performed on the show including The Cure, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, Simple Minds Marillion and The Smiths. The show had several presenters including Peter Powell, Jackie Spreckley, Janice Long, Timmy Mallett, Richard Witts, Rob Rohrer and Victoria Studd. The show was later parodied as "Nozin' Aroun'" in the first episode of The Young Ones.

- Dead of Night was a British television anthology series of supernatural fiction, produced by the BBC and broadcast on BBC2 in 1972. It ran for a single series; of its seven 50-minute episodes, only three—"The Exorcism", "Return Flight", and "A Woman Sobbing"—are known to survive in the BBC's archives. Another programme made by the Dead of Night production team under Innes Lloyd, The Stone Tape, intended to be the eighth episode, does survive in the archives but was not broadcast under the Dead of Night banner. BBC Four rebroadcast "The Exorcism" on 22 December 2007.
