A Broadway show is forced to bow to the whims of a talentless, whacky, but rich, Broadway actress with a contract.

The musician Udo Lindenberg (played by himself) is kidnapped during the party after a concert. Nobody realises this until the next day, when he doesn't show up in time for a rehearsal. Since the police believes this is only a promotion gag, private eye Kuhlmann (also played by Udo Lindenberg) has to be hired to find him in time.

Peggy and Bill are high society lovebirds, but their marriage plans are put on hold while Peggy spends most of her summer straightening out her wayward parents and her unlucky-in-love sister Janet. It seems she sent some compromising love letters to a worthless cad, and now the bounder wants to use the letters for blackmail. Peggy's friend Roger and his flapper sweetheart Tootie hatch an elaborate plan to retrieve the incriminating letters and salvage Janet's reputation.

The plot centers on students involved in the Soweto Riots, in opposition to the implementation of Afrikaans as the language of instruction in schools. The stage version presents a school uprising similar to the Soweto uprising on June 16, 1976. A narrator introduces several characters among them the school girl activist Sarafina. Things get out of control when a policeman shoots several pupils in a classroom. Nevertheless, the musical ends with a cheerful farewell show of pupils leaving school, which takes most of act two. In the movie version Sarafina feels shame at her mother's (played by Miriam Makeba in the film) acceptance of her role as domestic servant in a white household in apartheid South Africa, and inspires her peers to rise up in protest, especially after her inspirational teacher, Mary Masombuka (played by Whoopi Goldberg in the film version) is imprisoned.

Brass and percussion blend with dramatic choreography, brilliant lighting and special effects to create a new genre of performance in BLAST! Its performers move constantly, staging intricate movements to classical, symphonic, Broadway and popular music.Taped at the London Apollo Hammersmith Theatre in April 2000, BLAST! musical highlights include Ravel's "Bolero," Copland's "Appalachian Spring," and Chuck Mangione's "Land of Make Believe."

There’s confrontational self-proclaimed ‘cool-guy’ Ash Green who has it in for just about everyone, down-trodden stage technician Dru Lowley who has a few killer secrets to share, backing vocalist Summer who behind her sickly smile is desperate to take Bea’s crown and of course Bea Minicello - who is as sweet as pie to Stef but if she’s for real then how come everyone else seems to loathe her? Something is not right... A story about a group of young people with their whole lives ahead of them. However long that may be.
