Edward Mulhare

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Edward Mulhare was an Irish popular television leading man from 1956 to 1995. Born at 22 Quaker Road, Cork City, County Cork, Ireland, and educated by the Irish Christian Brothers, Mulhare intended to study medicine, but was sidetracked by a growing interest in acting. After acting in various Irish venues including The Gate Theatre in Dublin, he moved to London where he worked with Orson Welles and John Gielgud. His best-known stage role was as Professor Higgins in the original Broadway production of My Fair Lady, taking over from Rex Harrison in 1957. His first television appearance was in 1956 in a production of The Adventures of Robin Hood, but he is more well known for his starring roles in two television series, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir (again following Rex Harrison, who had played The Ghost in the film on which the series was based) and as Devon Miles in Knight Rider (both the original 1980s television series and a 1991 TV movie), as well as many guest starring performances on other programmes. He also guest-starred in one episode of the original Battlestar Galactica. He was a guest panelist on the TV panel show "What's My Line?" in 1958. In the mid 1980s, Mulhare hosted a television series, Secrets of the Unknown. The show dealt with the supernatural aspects of historical events,took place inside of a fictional, isolated castle. The main set room, which contained various displays and faux computer consols, helped to illustrate details of the subjects that were covered. These included the ocean liner RMS Titanic, Amelia Earhart, the rigid airship Hindenburg, dreams and nightmares, Stonehenge, the pyramids, ghosts, volcanoes, life after death, UFOs, and others. In addition to pre-recorded interviews with guests, actors in period attire were used to portray people within the subject material. The series is still a cult favorite among sci-fi fans and history buffs. He starred in a number of films in his career including Megaforce and Out to Sea. Convoy

- Convoy is a 13-episode American television show set during World War II that appeared on NBC for the 1965–1966 television season. The series starred John Gavin as Commander Dan Talbot of the US Navy destroyer escort "DD181" and John Larch as civilian merchant Captain Ben Foster of the cargo ship "Flagship", who were involved with the convoy ships and their escorts that help to transport food, supplies and war materials across the Atlantic during the Battle of the Atlantic. The series also featured Linden Chiles as Steve Kirk and James T. Callahan, formerly of ABC's Wendy and Me sitcom, in the role of Lieutenant O'Connell. Among the guest stars were Dennis Hopper, Jack Palance, Barbara Rush, James Doohan, Leslie Nielsen, Horst Ebersberg, Harold Gould, and Jeremy Slate. Convoy was one of the last NBC series in black and white; the use of stock footage made color impossible. As a result, several NBC affiliates refused to clear the program, which consequently failed to climb out of the 'bottom 10' in the Nielsen ratings. The program premiered on September 17, 1965, and the last episode aired on December 10.

It ran for 23 episodes, not including the two-hour pilot film originally titled Probe. When picked up for series production, the title had to be changed because Probe was the name of an existing PBS series. In the UK the series aired on BBC 1 under the title Search Control. The show was created by Leslie Stevens, and produced by Leslie Stevens, Robert Justman, John Strong and Tony Spinner. The high concept was described as "science fiction in today's world" and the episodes featured many high-tech elements which are considered common in current science fiction shows.

Custer

- Custer, also known as The Legend of Custer, is a 17-episode military-western television series which ran on ABC from September 6 to December 27, 1967, with Wayne Maunder in the starring role of then Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer. During the American Civil War, Custer had risen to the rank of major general, the youngest in the Union Army. He was demoted after the war during force reductions to the rank of Captain, but was reinstated in 1866 as a Lieutenant Colonel in command of the Seventh Cavalry, stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. Many of the soldiers in the regiment were derelicts, former Confederates, or even criminals. The series was cancelled before the script timeline would have reached the Little Big Horn River of southeastern Montana, where all perished on June 25, 1876, in a Sioux Indian ambush, Robert F. Simon played Custer's commanding officer, U.S. General Alfred H. Terry, who disapproved of Custer's long hair and much of his methodology of fighting Indians. Slim Pickens starred as a scout named California Joe Milner. Michael Dante appeared as Sioux Chief Crazy Horse. Peter Palmer played Sergeant James Bustard, a former Confederate soldier. Grant Woods appeared as Captain Myles Keogh. Read Morgan, formerly a cavalry officer on NBC's The Deputy, appeared in the episode "Spirit Woman" in the role of a medicine man.
